First season TNG dress uniforms were the best dress uniforms.
They’re a jazzed-up variation of the unisex “skant” uniform.
I once read some fixit fic in nu!Trek fandom positing that Starfleet issues all its people an equal number of the trousers uniforms and the tiny-dress uniforms. Men tend to wear the trousers ones and women tend to wear the dresses, but some people do the opposite. And some people switch it up depending on their mood/what they’ll be doing.
I am in favor of this idea.
oh man
I read one of those
a chekov character study
it was niiiiice
Weirdly, since they tend to run around in tight pants anyway, I never thought of this as a “dress” type piece of clothing as much as a “tunic” or “jacket” if that makes sense?
But then, they did shift from Spandex outfits to wool because the tightness of the uniforms was giving the cast chiropractic problems.
